Giving in the Name of Evelyn: Year 2
Last year, my wife and I kicked off a new family trandition in lieu of trying to conform to the traditional (and unrealistic) expectations surrounding Valentine's day. Given that the Holiday is centered around love, we wanted to transform our focus our energy on paying it forward by donating to organizations that are making a positive impact on the world. In doing so, we hope to set an example for our daughter Evelyn.
Unfortunately, life got incredibly busy around February and we completely missed the Holiday. We also started to become paralyzed by the possibilities of the myriad of organizations that we could donate to. And as time dragged on, I started to think it might make more sense to just wait until next year and make a bigger donation. The problem with this line of thinking is that there is always a reason to not pull the trigger. And since this is incredibly important to me and Emily, we're pleased to announce we've stuck to our commitment (albeit a little late).
This year, we're proud to extend our support to Happiness Through Horses! This incredible organization helps provide underprivileged youth with the opportunity to work with animals. We've had the privilege of knowing Kim Swaney and we have seen her passion in starting this organization from scratch and pouring everything she has into it. Her determination is infectious, and we can't wait to see the impact she makes on every student that joins her program!
